Today is your last chance to pre-register and to purchase tickets for meals and tours. Tickets are still available for meals, the Museums Tour, and the Hoover Dam Tour. The BCG Education Fund Workshop, Librarians' Day, and the Night Tour of the Strip and Downtown are sold out.

There will be on-site registration in Las Vegas, but meals and tours cannot be purchased on-site. Ticket sales for meals and tours ends today, 22 April 2013, at 11:59 p.m. EDT.

ProGen Study Groups Sponsored Breakfast

New to the conference schedule this year are breakfast buffets on Thursday morning, May 9th at 7:00a.m. One of these breakfasts is sponsored by the ProGen Study Program and will provide an opportunity for prospective students, current participants, alumni, and mentors of the study program to network together. All are welcome to attend.


The ProGen Study Program is made of up twenty online groups studying Professional Genealogy: A Manual for Researchers, Writers, Editors, Lecturers and Librarians, edited by Elizabeth Shown Mills. Participants work together in this collaborative program to develop professional genealogy research, writing, and business skills.

If you are thinking of transitioning from genealogy hobbyist to professional, then come and network with the program participants and alumni. All study group members are invited to come and meet their virtual colleagues. For more information on the study groups please see http://www.progenstudy.org.

Program administrator Angela Packer McGhie will be at the breakfast to:

• Give an overview of the ProGen Study Program

• Answer questions from prospective students

• Recognize the board-certified genealogists who serve as mentors to the groups

• Introduce recent graduates of the program and recently board-certified members

Tickets for this breakfast and other meals are available for purchase online only until 22 April. Those who have registered for the conference can add meals to their registration by logging on at http://www.ngsgenealogy.org, clicking on My Account, selecting My Events, and then clicking Add Sessions.

The breakfast buffet menu includes:

First, historian Mark Hall-Patton will present “Do You Think Anyone’s Going To Watch This Show?”

Hall-Patton is the hatted and bearded authenticator for the History Channel’s reality-television show, Pawn Stars, and is the Museums Administrator for the Clark County museum system.

Next, Megan Smolenyak Smolenyak will briefly share highlights from her thirteen-year-old monthly grant awards program in “Lucky 13: A Modest Proposal Regarding Genealogy Grants and Pawn Stores.”

Megan is a popular writer, speaker, and TV guest. She has appeared on Good Morning America, the Today show and on CNN, NPR, and the BBC.

Banquet attendees will have a chance to win an autographed copy of Mastering Genealogical Proof by Thomas W. Jones, and one of five JustaJoy.com annual memberships. Winners must be present to win.

First-Timers' Breakfast

Thursday, 9 May 2013, 7:00 a.m.

New at this year's conference, is a first-timers' breakfast. If the 2013 conference is your first NGS conference, you are invited to attend. The breakfast will give attendees a chance to meet and mingle with other first-time attendees while enjoying a delicious buffet breakfast. Attendees will learn about the history of NGS, the Family History Conference, what the NGS conference has to offer, and how to best enjoy it. NGS officers and the NGS board of directors will be on hand to answer your questions. This will be   enjoyed in a small social setting.
