Mariachi Los Bravos Leads Attendees from Opening Session to the Exhibit Hall

Since it’s inception in 2002, the Mariachi program at J.D. Smith Middle School has grown to over 300 students, making it one of the more popular programs at our school and in the Las Vegas Valley
The school’s performing ensemble, Mariachi Los Bravos, is an audition-based ensemble.  Aside from being enrolled in a mariachi class during the school day, this select group of students also dedicate themselves to 4 hours of after-school rehearsals every week.  The students who make-up Mariachi Los Bravos are also required to maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA in all academic classes and Outstanding marks in citizenship.

Maraichi Los Bravos continuously strives to set the standard for middle school mariachi ensembles in CCSD.  On average, Los Bravos performs 15-20 times throughout the nine-month school year.  Our performances vary from school functions and fundraisers, to community and charity concerts and festivals.  In 2009, Mariachi Los Bravos earned its very first Superior rating at the annual CCSD Mariachi Festival.  Members of Mariachi Los Bravos also represent J. D. Smith yearly in the CCSD Honor and All-City Mariachis.  For the very first time last year, Mariachi Los Bravos also auditioned for and earned the right to perform a 30-minute concert inside of Disneyland theme park in California.

Since 2005, the Mariachi Los Bravos has been under the direction of Daniel Gonzales and Thomas Garibay.  It is their leadership as well as the dedication, devotion, and passion of the students that continues to make Mariachi Los Bravos one of the premier mariachi ensembles in the Clark County School District.

For more information regarding booking Mariachi Los Bravos, donations, and general information about the mariachi program at J.D. Smith Middle School, please visit our website: http://www.mariachilosbravos.com

The Exhibit Hall is free and open to the public. It is located in the North Hall, enter from the Paradise Event Center Foyer.

In the Exhibit Hall there will be an outstanding variety of exhibitors and vendors on hand throughout the conference displaying their genealogical goods and services.

There is an interactive map online at http://shows.marketart.com/show318/. To see exhibiting company details, select a booth number, and then click to expand profile. Find a listing of all exhibitors by selecting “companies” at the bottom left corner of the page.

Exhibitor information and the Exhibit Hall map can also be found in the conference app. The exhibitor button on the app dashboard will take you to the list of exhibitors. Each entry includes booth number and company details. You can then bookmark, take notes, add to your schedule, and check as visited. Some exhibitors have added downloadable handouts with information about their products, conference drawings, and specials during the conference. This app is powerful!

Also, during the past couple of months, exhibitors have been featured on this blog. Look under the topic "Exhibitor Profiles" to see the posts.

The Exhibit Hall is close to the lecture rooms so you can browse in-between sessions and during the lunch break. Come on in and find that book/software/subscription/membership you've been wanting!

Free book scanning at the conference by FamilySearch

Share Your Family History Books With the World

Have you always wanted to quickly and easily share a family history or genealogy book with others?  Have you written a book that could help people with their research on a family name or locality?  FamilySearch will scan your family history and genealogy books at the upcoming National Genealogical Society Conference in Las Vegas, add them to the online digital book collection Family History Books at FamilySearch.org and give you a digital copy–for free!

Family History Books is a collection of more than 80,000 digitized genealogy and family history publications from the archives of some of the most important family history libraries in the world. The collection includes family histories, county and local histories, genealogy magazines and how-to-books, gazetteers, and medieval histories and pedigrees.

FamilySearch is interested in:
  • Autobiographies and biographies containing genealogical material
  • Family histories with genealogical information
  • Indexes to records
  • Local and county histories
Bring your books to the FamilySearch booth #105 where they can be scanned during the conference.  We will scan the book and give you a copy of the scanned image at the conference in addition to posting your book online. FamilySearch must have permission from the author or copyright holder to scan copyrighted books.
